Merganzer is the new experimental pop project of Violinist Mika Posen (formerly of Timber Timbre, Agnes Obel, Forest City Lovers). Mika's string contributions can be heard sweetly sweeping across the records of numerous Canadian bands, but her violin takes a central, yet unconventional role in this solo project. Merganzer's songs were primarily built using the “mikatron,” a mellotron-style string machine that she created from 90 different samples of her Violin. These samples were then processed through different combinations of effect pedals to create unusual, haunting organ-like textures. Merganzer’s first full length record “Mirror Maze” was released in November of 2015. Mika recorded most of it herself while living in Berlin and mixed with Dave Draves at Little Bullhorn Studio in her hometown of Ottawa, Ontario. Live, Merganzer brings the mikatron to the stage, dressed up with singing sine waves, home-made beats, Violin loops, and plaintive vocal melodies.
